The Highland Lake Democratic Women invite you to join us for a ZOOM meeting on Thursday, 1/27/22, from 11am - 12:30pm.

For this meeting we will dispense with a business meeting and devote all the time to our speaker, Dr. Robert Haley, M.D., who will be addressing issues of Climate Change. Dr. Haley is a Professor of Internal Medicine, Distinguished Teaching Professor and holder of the U.S. Armed Forces Veterans Distinguished Chair in Medical Research Honoring America's Gulf War Veterans.

Over his distinguished career he spent 10 years with the CDC and founded the Division of Epidemiology at UT Southwestern.  Last year he was awarded the Texas Medical Association's Lifetime Achievement Award for outstanding contributions to medicine through public health.  For the past 16 years e has studied the health effects of air pollution in Dallas from nearby coal fired power plants.  Dr. Haley lectures widely on the scientific evidence for climate change.

Please email your RSVP for this ZOOM meeting to Nancy Hill at nkhill@hotmail.com.  Nancy will send you the ZOOM link Tuesday, January 25.

Susan O'Brien grew up in Houston, graduating from the University of Houston. Susan spent most of her career in Talent and Leadership Development at American Express. In 2016, Susan and her husband of 32 years, Jim, chose Burnet as their retirement home.

In 2017 Susan met a women in her yoga class, Dottie Yturri, who was wearing a Beto for Senate button. Dottie invited her to be a guest at a Highland Lakes Democratic Women meeting and the rest is history.  Susan is now the incoming Vice-President for HLDW.

Susan has contributed a tremendous amount of time and enthusiasm to HLDW.  An ovarian cancer diagnosis in late 2019, and then a year lost to the COVID pandemic, reinforced her drive to make a difference in her community and state, in whatever way she  can and with whatever time she has left.
