Our guest speaker is Suzanne Warwick Freeman,editor of The Picayune Magazine in Marble Falls. She has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin and a master’s degree from the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism in New York. She worked as an editor at Scholastic Inc. in New York for 14 years before returning to her roots in Central Texas. While at Scholastic, she started the award-winning Scholastic Kids Press Corps, traveling nationwide to cover presidential politics, the Olympics, and major entertainment and sporting events. Freeman’s family roots sink deep into the hard scrabble of Central Texas. Her mother grew up on Broadway in Marble Falls, just blocks from the Old Granite School, and her father on Pierce Street, two blocks from downtown Burnet. In the 1980s, she was editor of The Highlander newspaper. Under her guidance, The Highlander was named the Best Community Weekly in the state in 1988 by The Headliners Club in Austin, the first time weeklies were included in the organization’s prestigious annual journalism awards. She has been Executive Editor for 13 years with Victory Media, owner of The Picayune Magazine, 101 Fun Things to do in the Highland Lakes, DailyTrib.com, 101highlandlakes.com, and KBEY 103.9 FM Radio Picayune. The Picayune Magazine published a feature on Freeman in the April 2025 issue.
