CONGRESSMAN JIM CHAPMAN SPEAKS AT OCTOBER MEETING

 The October speaker at the Highland Lakes Democratic Women’s meeting will be Jim Chapman, former Democratic Congressman. Jim received a BBA from UT Texas and a law degree from SMU Law School. After completing his law degree, he worked in private practice until he became District Attorney for the 8th Judicial District of Texas in 1976. Jim was first elected to Congress in 1985 and was re-elected to the next five succeeding terms. He is best known for his work on the restoration and development of an East Texas Lake called Cooper Lake. In honor of his work, Congress formally renamed the lake “Jim Chapman Lake”.  Jim now resides in Horseshoe Bay. 

The meeting is at Meadowlakes Hidden Falls Bistro on Thursday, October 24 and begins at 11:30am with registration at 11:15.

REMINDER

We will have a social gathering after the meeting in the bar at Hidden Falls Grill with cookies, beverages and fellowship. Hope you can join in!

Please join us at a tailgate party to kick off early voting.  We will meet at 5:30pm on 10/29 at the Democratic Office in Burnet - 611 S. Water St., Burnet, TX. (Corner of S. Water St. and Pecan St.)   Bring a lawn chair, hot dog makings or a covered dish.   Meet Matthew Dowd, Political Pundit, and send our Poll Workers and Volunteers off to a successful and energized election!

If anyone wants to attend, but no longer drives, please contact anyone on the executive board.

Leanne Raesener wore her mother’s name tag to honor her. Mary Ann Raesener, who recently passed, was a long-time member and officer of HLDW and former Mayor of Meadowlakes. Her life was celebrated at the meeting with a slideshow.
