Highland Lakes Democratic Women will welcome Christian Fletcher at the August meeting.

Christian has been the Executive Director of the Marble Falls Economic Development Corporation since September 2001. Prior to that, he was the Executive Director of the Marble Falls/Lake LBJ Chamber of Commerce. He and his wife, Kathy, are both natives of Marble Falls.

HLDW will also be collecting school supplies, games and puzzles for the Boys & Girls Club

Our guest speaker is Suzanne Warwick Freeman,editor of The Picayune Magazine in Marble Falls. She has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin and a master’s degree from the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism in New York.

She worked as an editor at Scholastic Inc. in New York for 14 years before returning to her roots in Central Texas. While at Scholastic, she started the award-winning Scholastic Kids Press Corps, traveling nationwide to cover presidential politics, the Olympics, and major entertainment and sporting events.

Freeman’s family roots sink deep into the hard scrabble of Central Texas. Her mother grew up on Broadway in Marble Falls, just blocks from the Old Granite School, and her father on Pierce Street, two blocks from downtown Burnet. In the 1980s, she was editor of The Highlander newspaper. Under her guidance, The Highlander was named the Best Community Weekly in the state in 1988 by The Headliners Club in Austin, the first time weeklies were included in the organization’s prestigious annual journalism awards.

She has been Executive Editor for 13 years with Victory Media, owner of The Picayune Magazine, 101 Fun Things to do in the Highland Lakes, DailyTrib.com, 101highlandlakes.com, and KBEY 103.9 FM Radio Picayune.

The Picayune Magazine published a feature on Freeman in the April 2025 issue.

The Highland Lakes Democratic Women will welcome Kevin Naumann of the ARK, previously the Highland Lakes Crisis Network, at their June meeting.  Kevin is a lifelong and 4th generation resident of Spicewood. Before HLCN, Kevin served with Marble Falls Area EMS for 11 years, including as Operations Director. He has been a member of the Marble Falls ISD Board of Trustees since 2009. Kevin joined HLCN as a member of the board shortly after the founding in 2018 and assumed the role of Executive Director in May 2018.

The Highland Lakes Democratic Women will feature Cheryll Mabray, Judge of the Child Protection Court of the Hill Country, at the May meeting.  Judge Mabray was appointed to preside over District Court child abuse and neglect cases in Blanco, Burnet, Coryell, Lampasas, Llano, Mills and San Saba Counties. She was previously the Llano County Attorney and recipient of CASA for the Highland Lakes First Annual Cheryll Mabray Child Warrior Award for outstanding leadership in fighting for justice for abused/neglected children.
