KINDNESS CAMPAIGN
HLDW is starting a "Kindness Campaign" where each month we will support a selected non-profit organization. A few examples are backpacks for school children, food for the Helping Center, or books for libraries. Please let us know if you have any suggestions. MARCH 27 MEETING
A large crowd of nearly 70 attended the meeting
Suzette Baker, fired Kingsland Librarian, spoke at the Highland Lakes Democratic Meeting last Thursday, March 27, at the Marble Falls Senior Center. She revealed the $225,000 settlement she received from Llano County in a wrongful termination lawsuit she filed last year. Suzette was fired for refusing to remove books deemed controversial by the Llano county & library leaders. Many of the books contained racial & LGBTQ+ themes. She has been celebrated by the Texas Library Association and was featured in a documentary titled "The Librarians" which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and South by Southwest.

One of the banned books was All Boys Aren’t Blue, a young adult memoir of a black, LGBTQ+ boy who was bullied.

Suzette spoke with Helen Baldwin and her husband Michael, a retired library director, who leads a poetry class at the Marble Falls Library the last Tuesday of each month.
