Photos from October Luncheon by Nancy Hill:  Jim Chapman, former Democratic Congressman and guest speaker at Highland Lakes Democratic Women, spoke about the importance of voting. He pointed out several elections that were won by a single vote.  Mary Kathryn Kane, President of HLDW, was presented with a gift for her outstanding service. She was unanimously re-elected to another 2-year term.  Mary Kathryn Kane awarded Charles Watkins a token of appreciation, a gift card to Jardin Corona, for his many years of service as Website Administrator.

Llano County Democrats wrote postcards to get out the vote on Wednesday, October 16, at La Tequila Jalisco, Kingsland  Highland Lakes Democratic Women participated in the Horseshoe Bay Fall Fest & Chili Cook-off, October 17, at Quail Point. Burnet County Democrats celebrated the start of early voting at a tailgate party on Sunday. Guest speaker was Matthew Dowd.
 Checks and order forms should be mailed to Patty Kane, 1000 The Cape #63, Horseshoe Bay, TX 78657. Please order by November 23. Patty will contact buyers to arrange pickup after December 6. There will be pickup locations in Marble Fallls and HSB. 
 The October speaker at the Highland Lakes Democratic Women’s meeting will be Jim Chapman, former Democratic Congressman. Jim received a BBA from UT Texas and a law degree from SMU Law School. After completing his law degree, he worked in private practice until he became District Attorney for the 8th Judicial District of Texas in 1976. Jim was first elected to Congress in 1985 and was re-elected to the next five succeeding terms. He is best known for his work on the restoration and development of an East Texas Lake called Cooper Lake. In honor of his work, Congress formally renamed the lake “Jim Chapman Lake”. Jim now resides in Horseshoe Bay. The meeting is at Meadowlakes Hidden Falls Bistro on Thursday, October 24 and begins at 11:30am with registration at 11:15. Thanks, Sandra Sandra Chapman 325-388-3231 (Home)  State Representative James Talarico spoke to Highland Lakes Democratic Women about the importance of public school funding at the September 25th meeting  Bessie Jackson of St. Frederick’s Baptist Church reflected on being bused to school in the early 1960s  HLDW board members Ravelle Kundinger, Nancy Hill, Patty Kane, Mary Kathryn Kane, Connie Stein, Ann Stevenson, Sandra Chapman and Rose Butler with Representative James Talarico, center  Leanne Raesener wore her mother’s name tag to honor her. Mary Ann Raesener, who recently passed, was a long-time member and officer of HLDW and former Mayor of Meadowlakes. Her life was celebrated at the meeting with a slideshow.
